Charlie Shifflett is the website and communications manager at Five Talents, an international micro-enterprise development organization based just outside of Washington D.C. Before joining Five Talents, Charlie worked as a journalist. He spent more than six years in Beijing, first teaching English writing at Renmin University, and then eventually working as a section editor and reporter at 21st Century Weekly, an English-language newspaper owned by China Daily. Upon returning to the US in 2010, Charlie worked as a paid intern at Washingtonian magazine and, later, authored a column on China for the website of The Washington Times. Charlie and his wife Susan reside in Arlington, Virginia.
